Automation QA Engineer - Genomics/Bioinformatics

Requirements:

• Bachelors or masters degree in computer science, bioinformatics, bioengineering, or a closely related field.
• At least 3 years of QA or test automation experience, including hands-on Python scripting for test frameworks such as pytest, unittest, or Robot Framework.
• Working knowledge of genomics fundamentals, including sequencing concepts, the sample-to-data lifecycle, and common genomics file and data formats.
• Experience in life sciences or biotech software environments.
• Direct exposure to wet lab and/or dry lab environments, with the ability to coordinate testing around laboratory processes and instrument or data outputs.
• Experience testing or working with LIMS platforms.
• The role focuses on validating genomics software and data outputs rather than developing bioinformatics pipelines.
• Preferred: Prior experience as an Automation QE in a bioinformatics organization.
• Preferred: Familiarity with cloud-based genomics platforms or life sciences data lakes.
• Preferred: Awareness of healthcare and life sciences compliance frameworks such as HIPAA, CLIA, CAP, or 21 CFR Part 11.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain Python-based automated test suites for applications supporting genomics, sequencing, and life sciences data workflows.
• Create and execute test plans, test cases, and regression suites for functional, integration, and data-validation testing.
• Verify software behavior against genomics concepts, including sequencing data types, variant-calling outputs, and sample-to-result traceability.
• Work with wet lab and dry lab teams to understand sample lifecycles, instrument outputs, and data handoffs, and turn that knowledge into test scenarios.
• Test LIMS integrations to confirm sample tracking, chain of custody, and end-to-end result reporting.
• Document and track defects, and collaborate with engineering and product teams on root-cause analysis and resolution.
• Support test strategy for life sciences and healthcare compliance considerations, including data integrity, audit trails, and traceability, in partnership with QA leadership.
• Improve automation frameworks, CI/CD test integration, and test data management practices.
