Embedded Software Engineer

Requirements:

• Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent experience
• At least 3 years of professional C/C++ experience; embedded experience is preferred
• Working knowledge of software engineering practices, including code reviews, version control, and coding standards
• Ability to develop firmware using standard IDE software packages
• Strong written and verbal technical communication skills
• Preferred: Ability to read and interpret datasheets and schematics, with experience debugging new board designs
• Preferred: Experience with microcontrollers or microprocessors and resource-constrained embedded systems
• Preferred: Familiarity with cryptographic algorithms and secure key-handling concepts
• Preferred: Experience with embedded unit testing and/or test-driven development
• Preferred: Familiarity with USB device development and/or USB protocol stacks
• Preferred: Experience supporting products in FIPS-regulated environments

Responsibilities:

• Design and implement robust, maintainable embedded C/C++ software in line with industry best practices
• Develop cryptography-enabled features for data confidentiality, integrity, and secure device operation
• Create and execute verification and validation test plans, and support product qualification and release readiness
• Collaborate with hardware engineering to bring up new boards, interpret datasheets and schematics, and troubleshoot hardware/software integration issues
• Analyze root causes and resolve issues across firmware, hardware, and testing
• Participate in design and code reviews, and help establish coding standards and secure development practices
• Prepare technical documentation, including requirements, specifications, style guides, and test evidence
• Support FIPS certification readiness and related documentation and evidence generation
• Work with silicon and SSD vendors to translate product requirements into partner roadmaps

We are seeking an embedded software engineer for our San Diego-based client, which develops hardware-encrypted storage solutions for highly regulated environments. In this role, you will help deliver security-focused features for encrypted storage products, including modern cryptography and support for FIPS certification, working closely with hardware engineering and external silicon and SSD partners. The position is full-time and on-site. The annual base salary is $115,000–$150,000, with a potential performance bonus and above-average benefits.
