Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Proficiency in Python, REST or GraphQL APIs, and AWS services such as S3, Lambda, and SageMaker or equivalents.
  • Experience with machine-learning and scientific-computing libraries such as scikit-learn, NumPy, SciPy, or TensorFlow.
  • Experience with data pipelines, ingestion, or automation.
  • Knowledge of software engineering practices, including design patterns and the development lifecycle, and tools such as Git, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Collaborative approach, curiosity, and enthusiasm for challenging established practices.
  • Ability to tackle loosely defined problems creatively, with strong communication, time-management, and organizational skills.
  • If you have not worked in AI, strong motivation to learn the field.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada; Canadian work experience is not required.
  • For candidates based in Quebec, bilingualism is required to support regular interaction with English-speaking colleagues across Canada.
  • Nice to have: Experience migrating dependency managers, CI platforms, or infrastructure in an active codebase; creating local development and integration-testing tools with emulated cloud services; optimizing containerized services; or using DevOps tools such as Kubernetes and ELK.
  • Nice to have: Familiarity with MongoDB, Kafka, or similar data and messaging technologies; advanced document processing, OCR, layout analysis, classification, extraction, and validation; production data or machine-learning pipelines; or the insurance industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with colleagues across data science, software engineering, actuarial science, business, and design.
  • Design, build, test, deploy, and operate dependable production services and data pipelines.
  • Develop information-extraction solutions spanning classification, OCR, document-layout processing, model-based extraction, refinement, and validation.
  • Bring LLM- and machine-learning-powered features from prototype into production, integrating cloud model providers while balancing quality, speed, reliability, and cost.
  • Design and take ownership of distributed-system components, including queue-based workflows, fan-out and fan-in processes, backpressure, idempotency, failure recovery, retries, and protections against data loss or duplication.
  • Investigate and resolve distributed-pipeline issues using structured logs, custom metrics, and traceable queries.
  • Help shape the AI roadmap for Canadas largest P&C insurer.
  • Build and maintain frontend applications and shared React component libraries in a monorepo, focusing on TypeScript, build performance, bundling, and production delivery.
  • Create and maintain Terraform infrastructure as code, including reusable modules, remote state, provider version controls, and multi-environment configurations.
  • Design and run AWS solutions involving networking, load balancing, API gateways, encryption and key management, IAM, and log and metric delivery.
  • Develop CI/CD workflows with reusable pipelines, environment matrices, and production approval steps.
  • Keep up with emerging technologies and apply them judiciously to improve solutions.
  • Optimize containerized services for performance and cost by assessing resource allocation, concurrency limits, and real-world bottlenecks.
  • Share knowledge with interns, data scientists, and software developers to support the teams growth.
