Junior Applications Engineer - Automation & Concepts

Requirements:

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Approximately 1–3 years of experience in engineering, manufacturing, automation, machine design, or a related field.
• Experience with or working knowledge of SolidWorks.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Basic understanding of mechanical engineering and machine design principles.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
• Valid drivers license and ability to travel periodically.
• Experience in custom automation, machine building, special-purpose machinery, manufacturing engineering, mechanical design, applications engineering, estimating, proposals, automated assembly, robotics, industrial equipment, manufacturing processes, machining, fabrication, pneumatic systems, electrical controls, automotive manufacturing, or medical device and life science manufacturing would be an asset.
• Curious, mechanically minded, analytical, and interested in learning how things work and developing practical solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Review customer drawings, specifications, production requirements, and manufacturing processes.
• Help develop conceptual machine designs and automation solutions, including preliminary machine and tooling layouts in SolidWorks.
• Determine machine processes, sequencing, operator interactions, and cycle-time requirements.
• Assess alternative approaches and technologies to identify practical, cost-effective solutions; research automation components, technologies, and manufacturing processes.
• Assist with cost estimates for custom automation equipment, including purchased components, machining, fabrication, assembly, controls, and other equipment needs.
• Estimate operator task times and manufacturing cycle times.
• Prepare technical proposals and quotation documents, and create 3D concepts, renderings, layouts, and visuals.
• Support customer presentations and technical proposal reviews.
• Collaborate with Sales, Applications, Mechanical and Controls Engineering, Project Management, Manufacturing, and customers to understand needs and develop automation concepts.
• Communicate technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Support senior Applications Engineers through the quotation and proposal process, managing assigned tasks and deadlines to support customer and sales objectives.
