Pre-Construction Manager, Data Center Construction

Requirements:

• Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
• Experience taking new design concepts from exploration and development through deployment or mass production
• Experience using MS Excel, Word, and Windows operating systems
• Experience with power management and power monitoring systems
• Extensive practical construction experience, including bidding, contracting, construction documents, infrastructure, design, and engineering
• Foundational knowledge of critical data center equipment, such as generators, UPS systems, switchgear, transformers, power feeders and busduct, chillers, plumbing, fire detection and suppression systems, and air-handling equipment
• Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time
• Preferred: 5+ years of project management experience in data centers or comparable critical infrastructure
• Preferred: Knowledge of engineering documentation, electrical diagrams, standard operating procedures, and critical data center equipment
• Preferred: Knowledge of building codes and regulations, including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, or OSHA
• Preferred: Data Center Engineering Operations experience and a strong understanding of electrical and mechanical data center infrastructure
• Preferred: Experience reading and interpreting construction specifications and drawings across all domains

Responsibilities:

• Support execution of our nationwide pre-construction program across multiple campuses
• Serve as the primary liaison among Real Estate, Design Engineering, Due Diligence, and other partner teams, providing schedule forecasts, construction budgets, and constructability guidance from initial planning through design development
• Conduct constructability reviews for critical scopes on new data center buildings and sites, and improve our baseline
• Evaluate construction phasing for potential sites across civil, structural, and electrical disciplines
• Identify and communicate site requirements that may affect schedule, cost, delivery, or integration with surrounding properties
• Negotiate with land sellers, developers, and general contractors; assess bids, proposals, and scoping documents
• Manage general contractors and other third-party vendors providing pre-construction services during design
• Define construction scopes and requests for proposals; review bid summaries, schedules, milestones, pricing, and subcontractor-level bid evaluations
• Support the issuance of contracting documents, including work orders, purchase orders, and work letters
• Prepare project documentation for handoff to Construction Manager partners
• Gather, assess, and share lessons learned with teammates and design and construction peers to support continuous improvement
