Senior Application Developer, Platform Modernization

Requirements:

• At least 7 years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial work on customer-facing products or technology enablement products.
• Expert-level skill in Java or C#, working fluency in the other, and the ability to learn languages and frameworks quickly.
• Strong SQL and data modeling skills, including experience moving business logic from databases into application services; PostgreSQL experience is required.
• Hands-on experience building and operating services on AWS and Linux, including containers, serverless, messaging, managed databases, and infrastructure as code.
• Experience designing and building REST APIs and asynchronous, message-based integrations.
• Daily experience with AI-assisted development tools and agentic coding workflows, with good judgment in checking correctness, security, and maintainability.
• Strong engineering practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, code review, and observability.
• Experience working in scrum teams and mentoring engineers.
• Preferred: Production experience with agentic services, such as Amazon Bedrock, AgentCore, retrieval-augmented generation, MCP, or tool use.
• Preferred: Experience with strangler-pattern migrations, change data capture such as AWS DMS, or large-scale data reconciliation.
• Preferred: Java experience, particularly with messaging or platform services, and/or Angular experience.
• Preferred: Background in compliance, legal, corporate, or financial services, or an AWS Associate, Professional, or Specialty certification.
• Brings a player-coach mindset, craftsmanship, systems thinking, curiosity, incremental delivery, collaboration across distributed teams, and candid, constructive communication.

Responsibilities:

• Own substantial roadmap initiatives, such as an application, business domain, or shared service, from code and data analysis through deployment to AWS.
• Investigate existing code and business rules, then turn them into clean, well-tested service code.
• Develop contract-first APIs and event producers and consumers that are idempotent, observable, and easy for other teams to use.
• Build infrastructure and deployment pipelines alongside application code so services are reproducible, monitored, and secure by default.
• Prototype and strengthen AI-enabled capabilities, including document understanding, retrieval, and agent tools, in collaboration with leads on evaluation and safeguards.
• Apply approved AI coding tools to refactoring, test generation, and documentation; verify their output and help teammates use these tools effectively.
• Pair with colleagues and provide constructive code reviews, helping engineers build skills in AWS, PostgreSQL, event-driven design, and modern engineering practices.
• Follow technical direction from the Development Lead and work with the Application Development Manager to strengthen the teams engineering capabilities.
• Partner with Platform Developers and architects on reference implementations and templates that meet shared standards and can be used across scrum teams.
• During the first month, learn the business through delivery: trace a capability through the existing C#/.NET code and SQL Server, add behavior-focused tests, and begin a bounded migration.
• Implement an AWS and PostgreSQL increment with automated tests, reviewed schema and data changes, and a repeatable deployment pipeline; validate it against the existing implementation.
• By day 30, deliver the increment to an AWS development or test environment with reviewed code, validation, operational visibility, and documented release and recovery steps. Production release follows normal approval gates.
