Web Development Lead / Senior WordPress Developer

Requirements:

• At least 5 years of web development experience; agency experience is strongly preferred.
• Expert-level skill in custom WordPress theme development and modification.
• Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3/SASS, JavaScript, and PHP.
• Ability to use AI to improve development workflows.
• Hands-on Pantheon experience, or experience with comparable managed WordPress hosting and Git-based workflows.
• Experience implementing cookie consent and privacy compliance tools, such as OneTrust, Cookiebot, CookieYes, or Termly.
• Familiarity with Git, version control, and modern build tools.
• Ability to work from Figma or Adobe XD designs.
• Experience with page builders such as Elementor.
• Experience managing multiple websites and project deadlines.
• A portfolio of live websites, with the ability to explain your specific contributions.
• Helpful additional experience includes headless CMS or Gutenberg development, REST APIs and third-party integrations, multilingual or translation plugins, and mentoring or leading developers or freelancers.

Responsibilities:

• Manage client WordPress websites, including builds, updates, maintenance, and launches.
• Scope new websites and estimate timelines and budgets based on creative specifications.
• Build responsive websites from our creative teams designs.
• Manage hosting, environments, and deployments using Pantheons development, testing, and live workflow.
• Implement and maintain cookie consent and privacy compliance across more than 40 sites, including GDPR and applicable US state privacy laws.
• Maintain ADA and WCAG accessibility standards.
• Set up and test analytics and tracking, including GA4, Google Tag Manager, and consent mode.
• Coordinate with our SEO/SEM partner on technical SEO, page speed, and Core Web Vitals.
• Attend creative and status meetings to discuss technical needs, feasibility, and timelines.
• Keep our WordPress, front-end development, and security practices current, and recommend improvements.
• Help plan department staffing and workflows as our web department grows.

We develop brands, campaigns, and websites for clients in manufacturing, rail, HVAC, mining, and other industrial sectors, and manage more than 40 client websites. This Web Development Lead role offers direct collaboration with our experienced team, input into project decisions, and the opportunity to lead a growing web department. Compensation is $72,000–$85,000 per year, with medical and dental coverage, Simple IRA retirement matching, paid holidays and PTO, a $1,000 education stipend after six months, and potential new-business and referral bonuses.
