API Platform Engineer

Requirements:

• 7+ years of software engineering experience.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with Broadcom Layer7 API Gateway.
• 5+ years of Java development, including strong Spring Boot and RESTful API experience.
• Experience with relational databases and SQL.
• Experience implementing OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, and mTLS.
• Experience with Git-based workflows and CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
• Preferred: MuleSoft-to-Layer7 migration experience, monitoring tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, or AppDynamics, or Financial Services/Banking experience.
• Nice to have: API governance, Kafka or event-driven architecture, MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, or enterprise IAM integrations such as Okta, Ping, or Microsoft Entra ID.
• Applicants must be willing and able to work on a W-2 basis.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and support enterprise APIs using Layer7 API Gateway.
• Implement API security policies, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, and mTLS, along with rate limiting and threat protection.
• Configure and maintain Layer7 policies, routing, transformations, mediation, and traffic management.
• Develop and enhance RESTful APIs and Java/Spring Boot microservices.
• Help migrate APIs and services from MuleSoft to Layer7.
• Integrate microservices with internal and external REST/SOAP APIs, databases, and third-party systems.
• Work with architecture, development, security, and DevOps teams in an Agile environment.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
• Troubleshoot performance, scalability, reliability, and security issues.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, operational runbooks, and architecture artifacts.
• Contribute to API governance and platform standardization initiatives.

We are seeking a remote API Platform Engineer to support API modernization and migration from MuleSoft to Layer7, helping deliver secure, reliable, and scalable APIs. The W-2 hourly pay range is $56–$66, with rate decisions based on skills, experience, and other compensable factors.
