Requirements:

  • Production-level experience authoring Terraform resources and modules for DynamoDB, including state management
  • Familiarity with AWS CDK and TypeScript, or the ability to align with these as the programs primary infrastructure-as-code standard
  • Deep hands-on expertise in DynamoDB data modeling, partition and sort key design, and access-pattern optimization for hyperscale NoSQL workloads
  • Extensive experience configuring DynamoDB Global Tables, cross-region replication, conflict resolution, and multi-region consistency models
  • Experience designing Global and Local Secondary Indexes, planning capacity, managing backfills, and optimizing projections
  • Strong understanding of on-demand and provisioned capacity, auto-scaling policies, target tracking, and cost optimization for large-scale tables
  • Experience with Point-in-Time Recovery, backup strategies, restore validation, cross-region backup vaults, and recovery testing
  • NoSQL database administration experience, including table maintenance, performance tuning, query optimization, and identifying and mitigating hot partitions
  • Nice to have: Experience with DynamoDB Streams, Lambda triggers, and Change Data Capture patterns
  • Nice to have: Experience with AWS Backup organization-level policies and cross-account or cross-region vault management for DynamoDB
  • Nice to have: Python scripting for automation and tooling in the AWS and DynamoDB ecosystem
  • Nice to have: Experience with Aurora MySQL or DocumentDB migration workstreams
  • Nice to have: DynamoDB cost optimization, Storage Lens, request-cost analysis, and cross-region data-transfer analytics
  • Nice to have: Experience with CloudWatch, X-Ray, distributed tracing, and DynamoDB performance analysis
  • Nice to have: Disaster-recovery architecture, active-passive topologies, multi-region patterns, and operational management of replica lag
  • Nice to have: Experience navigating enterprise change controls, CAB processes, production moratoriums, and exception handling

Responsibilities:

  • Design and carry out the migration of DynamoDB tables from us-east-1 to us-east-2
  • Configure Global Tables for active-passive disaster recovery and establish the foundation for an active-active migration targeted for late 2027
  • Assess existing table structures, keys, and access patterns, then optimize data models for multi-region replication, low-latency queries, and reduced cross-region latency
  • Develop and maintain production-grade Terraform configurations and AWS CDK modules in TypeScript for DynamoDB tables, indexes, capacity, auto-scaling, Point-in-Time Recovery, and backup vaults across both regions
  • Plan capacity and implement auto-scaling for tables and Global Secondary Indexes, accounting for replication traffic, cost efficiency, performance SLAs, and disaster-recovery scenarios
  • Implement and validate Point-in-Time Recovery, on-demand backups, and cross-region backup strategies
  • Create and test operational runbooks for regional failover, RTO/RPO validation, and data-consistency checks
  • Set up CloudWatch alarms for replication lag, throttling, consumed capacity, and Global Secondary Index health
  • Take part in GameDay exercises and disaster-recovery drills, and document operational procedures for application teams
  • Collaborate with application teams and support operational excellence through monitoring and runbooks
