Junior Functional/Automation Tester (Remote)

Requirements:

• 1–2 years of experience in software testing, quality assurance, test automation, or a related software development role; internships, co-ops, and equivalent project experience may be considered.
• Foundational understanding of functional testing, regression testing, and the defect lifecycle.
• Experience creating or maintaining automated tests with common testing tools or frameworks.
• Basic knowledge of REST API testing, including requests, responses, HTTP status codes, and authentication concepts.
• Familiarity with at least one programming, scripting, or query language, such as Java, JavaScript, or SQL.
• Familiarity with Git and development workflows such as branching, pull requests, and code reviews.
• Basic understanding of CI/CD concepts and willingness to learn pipeline-based automated testing.
• Understanding of secure test-data handling and safe logging practices.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document test results and defects clearly.
• Strong collaboration skills and willingness to learn from feedback.

Responsibilities:

• Perform functional, regression, integration, and other software testing activities.
• Review requirements and create clear test scenarios and test cases.
• Execute manual and automated tests and document the results.
• Create, maintain, and improve automated test scripts using appropriate tools and frameworks.
• Conduct basic API testing, including request and response validation, HTTP status codes, error handling, and authentication scenarios.
• Use Java, JavaScript, and/or SQL for test automation, scripting, and data validation.
• Identify, document, track, retest, and close software defects.
• Partner with developers and QA colleagues to investigate and resolve defects.
• Use Git-based workflows, including branching, pull requests, and code reviews.
• Support automated testing in CI/CD pipelines and develop hands-on experience with tools such as Jenkins or GitLab.
• Follow secure testing practices, including protecting sensitive test data, logging safely, and applying least-privilege principles.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and testing activities throughout the SDLC.
• Document test results, defects, and supporting evidence accurately and clearly.
• Collaborate with QA, Development, DevOps, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
• Follow established testing standards and continuously develop technical and automation skills.
