Network Engineer

Requirements:

• Working knowledge of structured cabling standards, including CAT5e/6, RJ45, RJ11, and 25-pair/50-pin RJ21 connectors
• Ability to use cable testers, tone generators, and test sets for analog line verification
• Basic familiarity with IP phone onboarding, LCD menu navigation, and activation-code provisioning
• Basic CLI and web GUI skills to check link status, interface states, and gateway port indicators
• Basic understanding of Power over Ethernet (PoE) and long-reach Ethernet adapters
• Strong spreadsheet skills, particularly in Excel, for accurately recording asset and test information
• Demonstrated adherence to enterprise facility safety rules, PPE requirements, and secure-access protocols
• Punctual, organized, and physically able to move equipment, rack hardware, and conduct desk-to-desk rollouts
• Strong interpersonal skills for courteous coordination with customer staff, facility operators, and cabling contractors
• Ability to follow detailed technical instructions from remote senior engineering leads while observing procedural safeguards
• Fluent spoken and written English
• Diploma or degree in Computer Systems Networking, Telecommunications Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent field experience
• Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or relevant network technician certification preferred
• Vendor cabling or telecom technician certifications are an asset

Responsibilities:

• Unbox, inventory, rack, cable, and power on voice routers, analog gateways, compute servers, PoE switches, and collaboration hardware in data centers and telecom closets
• Install IP phones at user desks, connect them to data jacks or PoE adapters, enter activation codes, and confirm network registration
• Assist telecom technicians with cross-connects between legacy terminal blocks and voice gateway ports, and test dial tone across facility phones, hotline/PLAR units, and paging amplifiers
• Run on-site tests for dial tone, inbound and outbound calls, calling features, voicemail message-waiting indicators, and emergency line dialing
• Maintain asset-tracking spreadsheets covering MAC addresses, serial numbers, port assignments, desk locations, and test results
• Provide daily progress updates to the Project Manager
