Product Software Engineer

Requirements:

• Experience rapidly building and shipping software using TypeScript, React, Python, Java, Go, Rust, C/C++, or similar technologies.
• Deep familiarity with LLMs, agents, tool calling, harness design, and modern AI development tools, including experience building real applications with them.
• Ability to work across interfaces, backend services, APIs, integrations, and unfamiliar systems.
• UI/UX experience and a strong interest in creating polished, intuitive software.
• Strong product judgment: ability to understand ambiguous user needs and turn complex problems into useful, simple products.
• Curiosity about AI research and tools, enthusiasm for experimentation, and ability to turn promising techniques into working software.
• Ownership, independence, ability to work with minimal direction, and effective collaboration with engineers, designers, and customers.

Responsibilities:

• Develop applications, agents, assistants, and automations that turn our local models into useful products.
• Design and implement polished, intuitive interfaces that make complex AI capabilities easy and enjoyable to use.
• Build frontend and backend systems, APIs, integrations, and tools that connect our models with users applications and workflows.
• Explore models, agent frameworks, harnesses, and techniques to unlock capabilities and improve existing products.
• Work directly with users to identify opportunities, take ideas from prototype to production, and continually improve products.

We are Alpaca, building a full stack of hardware, software, models, and applications to make AI something people can own. We are developing a new computer architecture to bring frontier models beyond datacenters, alongside a platform of models, applications, and services. Our team is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In this role, youll help bring our technology to market by building useful AI applications and services, working closely with customers, engineers, and designers from early ideas through dependable products.
