Senior DBA

Requirements:

• Experience creating and administering AWS Glue databases and Athena tables.
• Experience with AWS services including Lambda, Lake Formation, QuickSight, DynamoDB, Redshift, MSK/Kafka, Kinesis, ElastiCache, and OpenSearch.
• Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes, including PostgreSQL and MySQL workloads on Amazon ECS or EKS, or through RDS Proxy.
• Experience supporting Java and PySpark applications.
• Experience developing and running Ansible scripts.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze business and technical needs and propose database solutions for online and batch Java-based and AWS Glue/Apache Spark systems, troubleshooting issues such as deadlocks, long-running transactions, and connection pool or isolation-level problems.
• Work with business and technology teams to define system requirements and data flows, and support testing of database components.
• Design and deploy scalable, high-performance PostgreSQL and MySQL solutions on Amazon RDS, and recommend schema and data model enhancements.
• Create, deploy, and maintain database scripts, stored procedures, tables, triggers, and materialized views, using Python, Shell, Ansible, and AWS CloudFormation for automation.
• Independently manage database configuration, upgrades including blue/green deployments, restores using pg_dump and pg_restore, schema changes, user and password management, failover, disaster recovery, and replication.
• Coordinate database changes and operations with management, developers, and users.
• Evaluate and improve capacity and performance through capacity planning, RDS instance right-sizing, storage autoscaling, and resource forecasting.
• Maintain a central repository of data architecture materials, including data dictionaries, procedures, scripts, and security controls.
• Maintain and test backup and recovery strategies for applications and databases.
• Troubleshoot issues, conduct root cause analysis, and resolve problems.
• Monitor database health, transactions, and resource use with tools such as Amazon CloudWatch Database Insights.

This remote Senior DBA role supports database operations and design improvements for a portfolio of online and batch applications serving a Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement program. We can engage consultants on a W-2 or corp-to-corp basis. The posted W-2 pay range is $60–$65 per hour; compensation considers skills, experience, and other relevant factors, and other engagement options may have different rates.
