- Ability to diagnose production issues across application, database, and integration layers, take technical ownership, and deliver with limited supervision.
- Strong collaboration, communication, and mentoring skills, including explaining technical decisions to nontechnical stakeholders.
- Preferred: Experience leading a PHP-to-Node.js migration, modernizing legacy applications, or completing a comparable platform transition.

- Preferred: Experience administering or developing WordPress websites.
- Preferred: Bachelors degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of maintaining and improving existing PHP and MySQL applications, including resolving defects, tuning performance, making controlled feature changes, and analyzing code, databases, integrations, scheduled processes, and user workflows.
- Modernize application capabilities incrementally using a React and TypeScript stack, including technologies such as Next.js, Prisma, PostgreSQL, and Tailwind CSS.
- Design maintainable application components, responsive and accessible interfaces, APIs, data models, migration routines, and integration patterns.
- Plan and carry out database changes and migrations, including suitable validation, reconciliation, backup, recovery, and rollback procedures.
- Develop automated tests for critical workflows and deliver small, testable changes using regression testing, feature flags, and production observability where appropriate.
- Improve CI/CD workflows with the development team by incorporating automated builds and tests, code-quality and security checks, pull-request reviews, release controls, and dependable deployment and rollback procedures.
- Investigate production issues using logs, monitoring data, and standard Linux command-line tools, coordinating with teammates on environment or infrastructure concerns.
- Use AI coding assistants and development agents to analyze legacy code, implement changes, generate tests and documentation, review code, and diagnose defects while applying human validation and appropriate data and security controls.
- Apply secure development practices for authentication, authorization, input validation, data protection, secrets, dependencies, audit logging, and common web application risks.
- Document architecture, setup, deployment, interfaces, database decisions, support procedures, and known technical debt.
- Work with business leaders and users to clarify needs, assess tradeoffs, estimate work, and deliver practical solutions.
- Collaborate with and mentor the broader development team on architecture, technical standards, release coordination, knowledge sharing, and complex application or production issues.
