Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of hands-on CA Gen experience, including Broadcom Gen, COOL: Gen or CoolGen, with knowledge of its runtime framework and model internals
  • At least 5 years of COBOL software development experience
  • Strong understanding of CA Gen-generated COBOL code
  • Experience with mainframe application modernization or migration projects
  • Ability to translate legacy application logic into clear, detailed specifications for modern replacement systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills when working with legacy codebases
  • Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
  • Nice to have: experience with CICS, Db2, VSAM or IMS DB
  • Nice to have: familiarity with Java, C# or AWS

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze existing CA Gen models, runtime frameworks and generated COBOL code to understand legacy application logic and behavior
  • Develop detailed technical specifications from CA Gen-based applications to guide forward engineering of replacement systems
  • Collaborate with the team to design and validate migration approaches from CA Gen and mainframe technology to modern platforms
  • Support reverse-engineering work, accurately capturing and preserving business logic and rules
  • Partner with architects and developers to align legacy system behavior with new application designs
  • Identify risks, gaps and edge cases in legacy CA Gen models during modernization
  • Document legacy system architecture, data flows and dependencies
  • Share knowledge and help transfer CA Gen and COBOL expertise across the team

Were seeking a Senior or Lead Engineer to join our established team of 15–20 engineers on a large-scale mainframe modernization initiative. Our work focuses on rebuilding legacy applications and reducing reliance on CA Gen and mainframe technology. This is a fully remote role with no on-call support required, and well consider candidates at either the Senior or Lead level.
