  • You have worked with multiple relational databases, such as SQL Server, Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, or MySQL, and can design databases, manage migrations, and optimize performance.

  • You have implemented structured testing, including unit, integration, and contract tests using synthetic data.
  • You have used AI-assisted development tools, such as Claude Code, for coding, testing, or code review, and can validate their outputs and identify security risks.
  • You understand AI data security, including HIPAA compliance, PHI protection, and the use of synthetic data in development and testing.
  • You bring strong critical-thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, translating business needs into scalable technical solutions.
  • You can work independently, assess technical risks, and collaborate effectively with stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Helpful background includes health insurance, underwriting, benefits administration, or healthcare technology systems.
  • Familiarity with FHIR, Box Platform API, rules engines, or comparable integration technologies is beneficial.
  • Experience with AI-powered solutions, including LLMs, Google Vertex AI, Gemini, or retrieval-based applications, is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of NoSQL or document databases, such as Cosmos DB, MongoDB, or DynamoDB, is beneficial.
  • You can assess and support cloud-platform and database migrations with security, scalability, and operational efficiency in mind.
  • You bring technical leadership, sound independent judgment, and problem-solving ability, preferably in a small or growing organization.
  • You are dependable and accountable, take ownership, follow through, and deliver high-quality work.
  • You are curious, innovative, adaptable, and resourceful, with a willingness to learn and improve systems in a changing environment.

  • You care about quality and security and aim to deliver reliable, compliant, and scalable solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, deployment, and ongoing improvement of our internal and member-facing technology platforms and infrastructure.
  • Turn rapidly developed prototypes into secure, scalable, production-ready applications that support underwriting, health questionnaire collection, and health plan operations.
  • Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable ASP.NET Core APIs for centralized management of PHI and PII.
  • Move React and TypeScript prototypes into integrated production applications, with reliable backend connectivity and cloud deployment.
  • Own platform architecture and infrastructure, maintaining reliability, performance, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Implement and maintain authentication, role-based access, encryption, audit logging, and secure credential management.
  • Align platform development and infrastructure with HIPAA requirements, our security standards, and data-protection best practices.
  • Document technical security safeguards and support organizational security risk assessments.
  • Design and maintain a flexible, testable, auditable rules engine for underwriting and changing business needs.
  • Build secure data-collection workflows, including electronic questionnaires, tokenized access links, file uploads, and document management.
  • Make underwriting logic and system functionality straightforward to update without substantial redevelopment.
  • Develop and maintain secure integrations with third-party platforms, including CRM systems, drug pricing databases, document management tools, and enrollment and administration systems.
  • Work with internal departments and external technical advisors to clarify requirements, resolve technical issues, and improve workflows.
  • Find ways to streamline processes, reduce manual work, and improve system connectivity.
  • Manage cloud infrastructure, application deployment, and platform performance, primarily in Microsoft Azure or another approved environment.
  • Oversee CI/CD, environment separation, and infrastructure automation using tools such as GitHub Actions and Terraform.
  • Monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, and make improvements that support stability and business continuity.
  • Assess existing platforms, databases, and development tools for opportunities to improve security, compliance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Recommend technical and infrastructure improvements, documenting risks, benefits, and long-term sustainability.
  • Advise on engineering practices, system architecture, and platform development decisions as a senior technical resource.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation that supports transparency, knowledge sharing, and ongoing platform improvements.
