Mapping Specialist

Requirements:

• Willingness to learn our mapping tools and asset-tagging standards; prior GIS experience is not required.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to explain technical topics to non-technical audiences, and a strong customer-service orientation.
• Ability to remain composed under pressure, diagnose issues and root causes, recommend solutions, manage competing deadlines, and work independently once trained.
• Flexibility in a fast-paced, changing environment and ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
• Bachelors degree in Geography/GIS, Computer Science, Environmental Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Hands-on experience with GIS applications such as ArcGIS Pro or QGIS is desired.
• Working knowledge of CAD, GIS, cartography, map maintenance, and quality control is desired, along with experience using GIS editing, versioning, validation, and analysis tools.
• Experience georeferencing floor plans and converting CAD files (DWG/DXF) into GIS formats, and experience with Mapbox and/or Nearmap, are desired.
• Familiarity with project management practices and Google Workspace is desired.
• Ability to walk and stand for extended periods during customer site visits, and to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.

Responsibilities:

• Create and update customized Safety Blueprint maps in our internal software using customer floor plans, CAD drawings, and other source materials.
• Enter and process mapping data using coordinate geometry, digitizing, file conversion, geoprocessing, and georeferencing; check map accuracy after updating features and attributes.
• Manage several mapping projects at once, prioritize work according to customer deployment dates, and deliver accurate maps on schedule.
• Act as the primary mapping contact for Project Management and Customer Support, resolving map creation and update issues and working with teams across the company to address customer questions and concerns.
• Share feedback from customers and field teams to help improve our Safety Blueprint features and mapping workflows.
• Visit customer sites as needed to conduct site walks, tag critical assets on site maps, and demonstrate Safety Blueprint features and functionality.
• Maintain technical documentation, including user guides, troubleshooting procedures, and knowledge base articles; provide in-person and remote training for staff and customers.
• Keep up with mapping and GIS technologies, industry trends, and safety and emergency-response best practices; participate in training and share relevant learnings with the team.
